Madrigalis at the Specialist Schools & Academies Trust (SSAT) – National Music Conference – 7th November
It began with a six thirty start by coach from NSG to the Nottingham Belfry Hotel for a 9am start. They arrived much more sprightly than expected and in plenty of time – perhaps the chocolates at the delegates tables helped? They faced a scary gig ahead – not only was the room filled with Heads of music, music industry representatives and people from the SSAT, the keynote speaker was Howard Goodall, composer of tunes such as Blackadder, the Vicar of Dibley, Red Dwarf and Mr Bean – who has been appointed the National Ambassador for singing!!
Following on from a passionate speech from Howard, Madrigalis, led by Julie Shaw and expertly accompanied by Mark Pescott, lit the room with wonderful performances of a Gershwin Medley for Girls, Rutter’s “Gaelic Blessing”, Bob Chilcot’s “Look to this Day” and “We Beseech Thee”. Whilst Julie, Mark and the ladies had to rush away, I was able to absorb the wonderful comments from fellow delegates about the standard and quality of their performance – completely unfair for these to be directed at me but welcome all the same!!
