Gala Concert 2009

Gala Concert 2009

The Gala Concert is our opportunity to say farewell to our leavers and enjoy a little bit of summer sun with outdoor entertainment.

The formal part of the evening featured performances by Concert Band under the direction of Matt Butler and Paul Truman, String Group with Corinne Malitskie, Senior Guitar Ensemble with Nicoole Alderson and the ever popular Madrigalis with our very own Julie Shaw, accompanied by Richard Holloway on the piano.

Our leaving soloists for the evening were Nikki Hannent who played the 3rd movement from Weber’s 2nd clarinet concerto, Alex Bragg who played Beethoven’s Spring Sonata, Hannah Ribinson who played the 3rd movement from Weber’s bassoon concerto and Charlotte Sykes on the drums with a piece called ‘Odd One Out’. Nikki and Alex were joined by Casey Burgess in a trio performing ‘Variation of Air and Simple Gifts’, a piece written by John Williams for Barack Obama’s inauguration.

The informal part of the proceedings followed with outdoor performance from Big Band directed by Rob Reid, Tie Rack, Caribbean Queens and Pure Steel under the direction of Paul Parker and our ever popular Gospel Choir with Gareth Fuller from Peniel Place Music Services.

Well done to all the students and staff who worked so hard to round off the year with another ‘spectacular spectacular’.
