Gospel Choir, led by Gareth Fuller, had a busy few weeks with 2 high profile performances. The choir is now in its third year and has grown in numbers and reputation.
The first performance was on Wednesday 16 February at the Derngate in Northampton, as part of the Northampton ‘School of Life’ Project.
The second performance was at the Festival Hall in London on Monday 7 March. The ‘Sing Inspiration!’ 2011 event featured a mass choir made up of students from Northampton, Enfield, Hackney and Lewisham, and adult choirs from Wandsworth, Enfield and Brighton. They were accompanied by a professional five-piece Gospel band.
The students and staff involved had a long, tiring day but thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Feedback from parents who were in the audience was very positive:
“The concert last night was the best gospel I have ever seen – the energy, the talent and the hard work put in was just incredible” and “the night was uplifting”.
Well done to all the students for being totally committed to both events and turning up to all rehearsals.
This year’s Jazz Café was a huge success. Held in The Spinney Theatre, the groups alternated performances between the foyer and the auditorium.
We enjoyed performances from NSG’s ‘Tie Rack’ and Big Band, the Malcolm Arnold Academy Band, Spinney Community Big Band and John Richardson’s ‘Allsorts’. It is a great honour to be joined each year by John and his friends – the guys are all professional or semi-professional musicians and bring a great sense of fun to the evening.
A guest vocalist was Beth Hodgson, our Vocal Technology peripatetic teacher. Those of you who joined us for our Christmas Concert will remember Beth and her students singing numbers from the hit musical ‘Wicked’.
Watch out for next year’s Jazz Café in the music diary and please come and join us for a fabulous evening’s entertainment.
