NSG CIVA Awards 2016
The evening of Thursday 5th May saw the annual awarding of the NSG CIVA Awards. The awards celebrate pupils who have excelled within their musical field, be that either Compositionally, Instrumentally or Vocally.
Hosted beautifully by Mrs Vaughan, certification was awarded by our Headmistress, Mrs Harley and the Head of Performing Arts, Mr Parker with the assistance of the very special guest of Dr Mike Burgess- Wilson, Chair of Governors.
Over 160 awards were given to students who have excelled within their chosen musical field over the previous year within 4 categories:
Progress Award: Each of our instrumental and vocal teachers had been asked to select a student from each year group that they teach for the most progress on their instrument/ voice during the year.
Extra- Curricular Awards: Each music staff member had selected students from our weekly activities for an extra-curricular award based on attendance and effort in that group.
Composer Awards: Students from Year 10 and 11 GCSE music groups, AS and A2 Music and Music Technology groups had been chosen for outstanding composition coursework.
Performers Awards: Each of our 20 instrumental and vocal teachers had been asked to select a student to perform a piece during the evening to represent their own particular instrument.
At NSG we have 14 lunchtime and 11 after school activities involving 450 students, with 376 students and 1 member of staff taking a total of 421 instrumental/ vocal lessons each week. It was extremely difficult for the staff to choose the winners from so many worthy candidates.
A wonderful evening and congratulations to all who received awards and a special mention to the winner of ‘The Carol Parker-Timms Progress in Music Award’, Alice Findlay!
